Plant Information

Summer Squash

  • Harvest around June 29 (twice a week as squash ripen)

  • Use a sharp knife to cut stem

  • Immediately wash squash in cold water and keep in the fridge until donation

Gallery

Zucchini

  • Harvest around July 1

  • Harvest when they are 4-6 inches long

  • Store in fridge until donation

  • Signs of disease/bugs: sticky sap, brown/pale splotches on leaves, white powdery spots

Onions

  • Harvest around September 2

Sunflowers

Garden Bean

  • Harvest around June 29

  • Harvest while they are young and seed are visible when looking into the pod

  • Do not wait too long to harvest because they will become wrinkly and tough 

Snow Peas

  • Harvest around July 16

  • Harvest before the pod starts to swell

  • Harvesting can be done multiple times per week

Compost Bin

Sweet Peppers

  • Harvest around August 2

  • Harvest whenever they seem to be the right size (there is a variety of colors)

  • Use a knife to cut peppers off the plant when harvesting

Cucumber

  • Harvest when cucumbers are about 6 inches long

  • Use a knife to cut the cucumber off the plant

Baby Watermelon

  • Harvest around August 12

  • Add a layer of dirt from compost bin around the base of the plant every 3 weeks

  • If more than 2 fruits grow on one vine, remove the extras so that only 2 grow
